AJA (Adisa
Jelani Andwele) is one of the leading exponents of performance
poetry in the Caribbean. Over the last three years, he has been
establishing himself on the “World Music” scene and
international performance poetry circuit.
From his emergence as a poet in the 1980’s, AJA
has focused on many of the world’s problems. War, social
decay and economic suppression, and in particular their impact
on children, have been the themes of his work. They include “Poor
People Dead”, “Light a Candle for the Children”,
“Live as One” and “Living in Hell”.
His works are also featured in a collection of poems entitled
“Antiquity” which is published by Peepal Tree Press,
Leeds, England. For more information on AJA’s recordings
